PRENOTA

The crypt of San Salvatore di Giurdignano is one of the greatest expressions in Byzantine art and architecture in the Salento area, manifesting itself in many peculiarities that make it unique in its kind; the crypt has been dug entirely in the tufa bench and for this reason has remained hidden for a long time in the eyes of man. Over the years the area has been circumscribed first to sepulchral use and subsequently to the construction of a religious building, creating a stratification such as to prevent any access to the underground environment.
